Well readers, here we are. The new home of all things Bleeder and beyond. I hope you like it!
When last year’s serial grew from a one-off novel into a series, we quickly began to outgrow our original webspace, inspiring us to build this place. Letters from New York will be serialized here, as well this fall’s full-length Bleeder sequel, Ruler. It will also be the future home of the BLEEDERverse F.A.Q. and reader’s guide.
Most of the features (though not all of the early blog entries) have been carried over from the Bleeder website, and those of you not reading the series on an external site, such as Wattpad or Figment or Goodreads, should definitely bookmark this place. This is where it’s all going to happen.
Welcome! Please come inside. […]
Letters From New York coming March 2013 Until Mills and Keel, the sorcerer-vampire bond was solely the stuff of folklore and legend – a whispered myth with one hell of a body count. Now Mills […]
A couple months back I was interviewed about BLEEDER by Canadian ‘zine and indie culture magazine BROKEN PENCIL (print edition, pictured below, on newsstands now) for an article about Canada’s Underground YA Scene. You can […]
Okay, folks, first things first. For all of you who have messaged, commented and emailed begging me for a sequel… you’re getting one! (Then again I’ve known that for months, but kept mostly mum about it, afraid if I released the title it would be a major spoiler for the end of BLEEDER, and I simply didn’t want to do that. I hate spoilers.). But a sequel is not the only thing you’re getting…
Here’s some of what you can expect from the BLEEDERverse (or rather, the BLOOD MAGIC series) in the coming year:
* Your support and comments have led to some genuine publisher interest (wow! woohoo! yippee!), so over the Xmas holidays I’ll be working on a “novel” edit of the book. And even if that turns into nothing, there have been enough pleas for physical copies of this story, that we already have a sturdy backup plan in the works to get it out there. One way or another, BLEEDER will be a real book. Hopefully by the end of 2013.
* Roughly around March of next year, I’ll be serializing LETTERS FROM NEW YORK [a Blood Magic novella] online. The story will be told over the course of six to ten chapters and takes place shortly after Mills moves back to New York and concerns her early reintegration into the human world and the return of the bond. (I started writing this two days ago, and I must confess I’m terribly excited about it.)
* Then, in fall 2013, I’ll be serializing RULER, the novel-length sequel to BLEEDER. The book begins roughly six months after the events at the end of BLEEDER (and two to three months after LETTERS FROM NEW YORK). As you may have already guessed from the title, much of this one is about Keel and his reign as Nosferatu king, and how it’s going to take a lot more than an oath and a blood contract to break his connection to Mills. And just what that means, for him, for her, for the vampire kingdom, and their future. I’m also thrilled to announce that half of RULER will be narrated by Mills, while the other half will be narrated by Keel. Yes, we’re finally going to get a glimpse into that vampire head of his!
* While that’s all the stuff that’s written in stone – apart from the launch of a new website, etc., for the series – that doesn’t mean that’s all there will be. I’ve been toying with the idea of trying to tell a few short stories set in this world as well (namely: the tale behind Bruce’s and Ephraim’s bond; and some more of the vamphyrric folklore I’ve dreamt up for the series). As always, there are no shortage of ideas or creativity, only time.
Basically, what I’m trying to say with all this is that if you’ve fallen in love with the world of BLEEDER, there will be lots more stories told there. Certainly more than I ever imagined when I first set out writing the serial. But that’s a good thing, and an exciting thing, and I’m pleased that I get to share it with all of you.
If you want to stay keyed into the latest updates, please fan me or “like” the book’s fan page on Facebook, as I’ll be posting many updates (and other fun stuff) in the days and weeks to come. Thanks! […]
It’s been exactly two weeks since I posted the last chapter of BLEEDER. The only fourteen straight days I’ve taken off from the serial since I hatched the plan to write it roughly a year ago. At times those fourteen days have been celebratory – I finished it! And put it out into the world! And people honest to goodness like it! Take that stage fright! Holy crap, I did it! I can’t believe it! – and depressing. Mills and Keel feel like old, beloved friends at this point, and I will miss – hell, I already miss – the people they were on this first part of their journey. But, from the moment I realized this story required more than one book to be told, I always saw BLEEDER as “The Becoming.”
And just as this is an ending for one part of Mills’ and Keel’s lives, so is it an ending for one part of mine: my first novel. I will (thankfully!) never be as green or, at times, as scared witless as I was doing this. This was me, all of me, putting myself out there, daring to live my dream of telling all of you stories.
Only, I never expected anyone to like it so much. I mean, I hoped, everyone who writes and publishes hopes, but… Some of the comments I’ve received have just floored me. I honestly don’t know what to say – just thank you! Thank you for coming along on this journey with Mills and Keel and me (and the rest of the awesome Bleeder team: chapter artist Jerry, editor Claire and cover artist Justin, and Jessa and Brent, my beta readers), thank you for taking a chance on this book and allowing us the opportunity to entertain you. And thank you for supporting us – for liking the chapters and telling your friends about the story. I’ve been so busy writing most of this year, I’ve pretty much had to count on you, the readers, to promote it. So thank you.
Up next: what happens next. The paperback? The sequel! Something else?
Stay tuned. Announcements coming very, very soon. […]
